Dear Parent/Guardian,
Important information regarding children’s Nasal Flu Vaccine – FLUENZ The children’s nasal spray flu vaccine is safe and effective.
It’s offered every year to children to help protect them against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and can cause serious complications.
Flu is caused by the influenza virus and can be a very unpleasant illness for children. It can also lead to other serious problems such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
The nasal spray flu vaccine is free on the NHS for:
- Children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2021
- All primary school children (reception to year 6)
- All year 7 to year 11 children in secondary school
- Children ages 2-17 years with long-term health conditions
Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating your child also protects vulnerable family members and friends.
If your child has a serious underlying health condition or is a close contact of a severely immunocompromised household contact of whom close contact is unavoidable, please contact your School Age Immunisation Team to book an early clinic appointment to protect your child against flu.
If you are seeking early vaccination due to immunosuppression, please seek advice from the person’s consultant about your child receiving the nasal flu spray as this is a live vaccine with a risk of transmission and may not be a suitable vaccine.
If you have not heard from your child’s school or GP Surgery regarding your child’s flu vaccine by mid to late November 2023, please contact your child’s GP surgery.
